Smile Artists Africa is an initiative that was created with the desire amongst the artist community to contribute to social development in South Africa. The idea behind this initiative is to support raising resources for South African breast cancer survivors, funding breast reconstruction, raising awareness against breast cancer and to encourage breast cancer screening.
This momentous event was launched in December 2020 and rallied by the internationally renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Brian Monaisa. His vision is basically to give the cancer victims a second chance at life. The launch event in 2020 was anticipated to raise over R300,000 in funds and this was exceeded with surplus from purchases of multiple exclusive artworks. In September 2021, Smile Artists Africa together with Sanlam Private Wealth, hosted the Fusion Art Fashion event, which was held at Kyalami Racetrack, and raised an applaudable R1 365 000 for breast cancer survivors. The event included an online Auction bidding on pieces from Azael Langa, Nkhensani Rihlampfu, Treatwell Mnisi, Olwethu de Vos, Mel Madiba, and Phumzile Buthelezi.
